Cherry blossom viewing (Hanami) is just one of those things my husband and I never thought we would experience in our lifetime. It is truly something you have to see to believe. Walking in an alley, surrounded by cherry trees with blossoming flowers is something that is both mesmerizing and unforgettable. There are many spots where you can admire these tress.
The closest spot is the Kotsuki riverside, where you can find cherry trees perching over the river. The Kotsuki River is located along the stretch near Amu Plaza and Kagoshima Chuo Station. It is about 3-5 mins walk from the station. From the river, you can see Sakurajima, giving a nice background to the cherry trees. It is also a great barbecue spot, and during Cherry blossoms season, it is likely to be full, especially on weekends. People would come early in the morning to reserve their spots by laying blue sheets on the ground.
It is highly recommended to visit this spot as it is the most easily accessible cherry blossoms’ viewing area in the city.
