As a family, my husband, daughter and I went to Izumi, Japan for a “unique kimono and samurai” experience! It was ¥5,500 per adult and this included getting dressed in a kimono of our choice, then walking the traditional streets, as well as visiting traditional, authentic samurai homes. We also had the opportunity to participate in a tea ceremony while being serenaded by the Japanese harp (the koto).
The samurai homes were nearly 400 years old. These were impressive structures and to be standing on so much history was pretty awesome! We were only allowed to walk into 3 homes. There was someone in each samurai home to guide us through each room with detailed explanation of what the room was used for. With 90% of Japanese and 10% of English being spoken, we still managed to understand the gist of what was being said. We got to see different hiding spots used back in the day.
